On May 23rd at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Princess Yasmin Aga Khan was honored with the Spirit of a Woman Award at this year’s American Image Awards by the American Apparel and Footwear Association.  Star of the new Broadway hit Spamalot, David Hyde Pierce, who presented Yazzie with her award said he never knew there was such an association but felt quite at home there because “I have gone at times only wearing apparel and I have gone at other times wearing only footwear.”

Yasmin said her whole life’s work has been centered around Alzheimers starting with her mother’s disease which was only diagnosed late when she knew no name for it.  She said she felt there was nothing else she could do than to take care of her mother, the legendary beauty Rita Hayworth, whom she loved.  “My Mother took such wonderful care of me when I was a little girl and growing up.”  The Rita Hayworth gala has raised over 37 million dollars to date.

Kevin Bacon, looking like a rock star with his new hairdo, or was it a hairpiece?, presented Damon Dash with his award.  He said he considered Damon Dash his therapist.  Damon Dash in turn formed his entire thank you speech proudly around his beautiful, smart and talented designer wife, Rachel Roy.

Christie Brinkley, always gorgeous, was resplendent in a clingy white gown as all eyes gazed on her beauty as she emceed the event.

Isaac Mizrahi of Target who received Designer of the Year award, said: “I am baffled every time I get an award. I don’t believe that creative people deserve awards. I only do what I really like, so it is not fair.  I should not be getting an award. I should be giving an award.  When you pick an old Queen like me to get an award, I am doubly baffled.”

Mizrahi was regailed that he had been often reprimanded in school for drawing fashion in bibles.

Also awarded were Paul Charron as Man of the Year and Trish Adams as Retailer of the Year on behalf of Target.
